I have a question about AP biology osmosis lab?

When we did our lab, we tested for osmosis using different concentrations of sucrose in bags and placing them in water to see how much water moved into the bag. We also did a control by filling a bag with plain distilled water and placing it in a beaker of plain distilled water. For some reason, the bag gained m. Can anyone explain why that happened?
