Smoke smell from fireplace in Basement?

i wood call some one in to check your chimmey for leak. to find out of there a hole or not in there . you mit have to put a liner in your chimmey to fix it. but get it check before youy have a fire . and you wouldn,t have to if your house burn down. so didn,t use it tell you check it out.
